Starhawk’s Winter Calendar

Starhawk’s Winter Calendar–Online Course, talks, workshops, Earth Activist Training

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Starhawk is a member of the Pagan Permaculture list that I joined this week. On her website, Starhawk describes herself as the “author of many works celebrating the Goddess movement and Earth-based, feminist spirituality. I’m a peace, environmental, and global justice activist and trainer, a permaculture designer and teacher, a Pagan and Witch. To see how it all weaves together, follow the many strands of my web.”

For many, many Pagans, reading Starhawk’s book The Spiral Dance, was the event that told them they were “home”–that there was a name for their spirituality and a community of people who believed as they believed. At Samhain last weekend, Starhawk was one of the leaders of the 30th annual Spiral Dance Ritual.

Some of her earth activist training classes are available online. Starhawk’s winter calendar:

“The Inner Compass: Finding and Holding the Vision”
Each of us alive today is here for a purpose. We each have a unique role to play in bringing about that transformation- our own gifts, our own vision. And the earth needs us each to be our most creative, compassionate and powerful self. But how do we find that vision, our purpose for being here, our true work? How do we step up to the challenge, and how can we hold a vision through times of adversity, and find the courage to overcome fears, blocks and challenges?
Enroll online at www.growingedgeinstitute.com (late registrations accepted during first week of class).
Cost $150. Some partial scholarships available, please see website.

Tuesday, November 17
San Fransisco, California
One Taste hosts an evening talk with audience discussion.
“Power and Mystery”
Power-over, or domination, means oppression, a system where one person controls another, one gender dominates the other, one race holds the others down. To overcome oppression, we must tap a different kind of power: power-from-within, or empowerment. “Power” also means “ability”: our creative power to imagine, to bring to birth, to nurture, to transform. Power-from-within arises when we learn to listen to our intuition, to the lessons of nature, and to each other, let go of control, and embrace mystery.
Location: Bayfront Theatre at Fort Mason (Building B – 3rd Floor)
Time: 7:00 – 9:30 p.m.
Cost: $20

Thursday, December 3
Irvine, California
Goddess Temple of Orange County hosts evening talk for women and men
“Goddesses for the End Times”
The core insight of Goddess spirituality is that the Earth is alive, a being that we are part of. Yet we live in a time when assaults on the life support systems that sustain us have reached crisis proportions. Our social and governmental institutions seem unable to cope with global warming and environmental deterioration, or to respond effectively to catastrophes like Hurricane Katrina and the flooding of New Orleans. Meanwhile, they wage an unpopular war unchecked by massive protests. What does the concept of the Goddess mean in such times? What aspects and images can inform us, sustain us, and give us healing and hope?
Location: 17905 Sky Park Circle, Suite A
Time 7:00 – 9:30 p.m.
Cost: $25
