Hello world!
Peak Oil, Peak Oil! Watcha gonna do?
Watcha gonna do when the cheap fuel’s through?
Welcome to Brewing the Pagan Permaculture. And what is “permaculture,” you may be asking.
According to Wikipedia, “Permaculture is an approach to designing human settlements and perennial agricultural systems that mimics the relationships found in natural ecologies. It was first developed by Australians Bill Mollison and David Holmgren and their associates during the 1970s in a series of publications. The word permaculture is a portmanteau of permanent agriculture, as well as permanent culture.”
In the next generation, when oil production drops and the price of fossil fuels skyrockets, we will not be getting apples from Chile and TV’s from China. Now is the time to secure our local food supply and reboot local production of essential goods and services. We are lucky to be living in Peoria. Surrounded by fertile farmland and blessed with the Illinois River to connect us to the rest if the world, Peoria should be able to ride the shocks as we transition to the Post Industrial Economy.
Many Pagans assume that when the crisis comes, they will head for the hills and homestead. But I am believe we can establish a sane, comfortable, permanent culture in the city. And in future blogs I will talk about how to create a Pagan permaculture in Peoria.
